DART’s Sustainability Vision is to promote a culture of sustainability that adds value for our customers, improves quality of service, attracts tomorrow’s workforce, and positions DART as a leader in sustainability with a focus on continuous improvement.
Maintaining and growing an accessible and comprehensive transportation network that considers transportation’s impacts on people, places, and the planet requires long-term planning rooted in sustainability. DART formed as a public transit agency in 1983 and its sustainable practices have evolved over time with industry technologies and practices. DART is now an industry leader in the field of implementing sustainable practices, particularly in the areas of fuel technologies, innovative service planning, business technologies, and SGR. Dallas Area Rapid Transit has embraced the role of being a regional mobility asset in one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the country that is integral to supporting a sustainable, resilient, and equitable region that enables both residents and communities to thrive while being responsive to climate change.
The sustainability framework that underpins this Sustainability Plan is centered on three pillars:
Each pillar contains a set of focus areas and associated goals, which DART uses to establish actions and track sustainability performance within the Sustainability Plan. In total, there are three pillars, 14 objectives, and 32 actions that will be implemented by a cross section of departments that support sustainable principles and outcomes within the agency.
